How it plays

Each player gets a Zingo card with nine pictures. The clever Zinger device slides forward and reveals two picture tiles at a time. If a tile matches a picture on your card, call it out and grab it first! The first player to fill their card shouts "Zingo!" and wins. The double-sided cards offer an easier and a harder level.

What it trains

Zingo! pairs every picture with its written word, so children absorb sight vocabulary while they scan, compare and react. The grab-it-first mechanic asks for focused visual search plus a well-timed response โ€“ calling the word before taking the tile builds the link between language and action. A wonderfully rich package for four- to six-year-olds.

Community voices: A long-time staple in American preschools and homes, with multiple parenting awards. Parents praise the self-explaining Zinger and the painless learning effect; teachers love it for early literacy. The only recurring quibble: adults will want to take turns operating the Zinger.
Our tip for parents: Ideal as a first "real" game: the pace adapts naturally to the child, and the word side grows with them.

Especially good for

  • Families with kids from about age 4
  • A perfect very first rules-based game
  • Pre-readers and early readers โ€“ vocabulary comes free

Less suitable for

  • Children who melt down when someone else grabs first
  • Quiet, slow-paced game evenings
